"Building a business that at the core is a force for good is what 'effective' leadership is, otherwise...what are you leading others to?" What does it mean to be "a force for good? Manifesting good in the world, your business, your family, friends, community is doing what is needed or meaningful in areas where a difference can be made to move the needle in a positive direction. Wether it is a product output that is helpful, a service that adds to lives, something is happening or being created to add to lives rather than a business that subtracts from life or has a negative impact on the world. So take a moment and think about what your company is doing, both inside with personnel and outside with clients, providers and the community that is adding meaning to your business and is a force for good? And is it something that you and your staff can put belief and energy in? Ownership and employee engagement hinge a lot on what is defined as the purpose that gets you out of bed in to be showing up to work everyday with high output and interest. For me, the force for good in Motion Forward Inc. is the building of an affordable, easy access curriculum that educates youth, young adults, parents on healthy life and relationship building skills that we are not taught in school. To reduce the suffering from bullying, low self worth, lack of identity and the endless list of symptoms that are derived from lack of knowledge around self and others. What drives me is the good that can be created from people feeling more happy about themselves, confident and the learning of how to build the life they continue to dream about and how to navigate healthy relationships with family, friends and life partners and children. It is my goal to find ways to build these life & relationship skill programs to improve my life and those around me and all those that I can reach. Do You Offer Something For Them To Believe In? In case you as a reader are not aware. The belief in something is what has the greatest impact on wether it becomes true or not. This is not to say that everything you believe in comes true. Belief, at your core, has the greatest impact on your achieving. Without belief there is no resilience, persistence and determination. These will be lacking without true belief. Consider that creating a high lifetime value client or a long standing employee is something you be and do that encourages loyalty and engagement. By giving them access to what you believe in, they become your raving clients or employees! You've then raised your own champions moving forward your business and greater goals. Is Your Business Building a Community That Influences The World In a Positive Way? A community of people that care about each other inspires a ripple effect in their immediate universe of people, influencing positive relationships that impact your business and their own personal lives. If this practice and suite of skills are missing in your business, take a good hard look at what you will be risking in the near future to run without ways of injecting positive influence. If you're not sure of what risks you're running, ask for help from a trained relationship skill facilitator/coach/trainer who can work with business owners and/or teams. Can You Do Gratitude and Acknowledgments? Are you trained, skilled and leading the way in building these two extremely important tools into your organization or family? Do you remember how you felt the last time someone gave you a whole hearted appreciation for something you did? Do you remember how that felt going into your physical being? Do you remember the outcomes your produced afterwards? Creating an environment that engages in gratitude and acknowledgments beyond just a simple "thank you" (which I believe to be a lost sentiment) produces outcomes that you cannot possibly predict. A simple practice is to start each conversation with an easy going offer of gratitude or acknowledgement. Bob: "Hey Ray, thanks for coming to my office early, it allows me to get through all these meetings today much happier" It does not have to be a massive diagnosis! Just start getting in the habit of injecting gratitude or an acknowledgment into conversations and meetings. Does Your Business Focus on Possibility or Liability? Yes. There is bad everywhere. And even better...there is good everywhere. The skill is the habit of looking for the good in all rather than the bad. The bad habits, events, mistakes, people are easy to identify, call out and address. We are well trained on the bad. Where transformation starts to happen in your business and families is when the focus moves to the good. This is not to say nothing bad ever gets addressed. This is simply pointing to the enhancement of environments when "goodness" becomes a focus. Possibility exists inside of every problem and person. Train yourself to identify the good and the outcome will be more moving forward. The liability of focusing on bad is an issue in company morale, turnover, engagement and the list goes on! These are costly! This can create debilitating outcome Consider the difference in your business and family simply by making an effort to notice the good in a bad situation or moment. Again, I understand that bad needs to be addressed....my point is that, so does the good and we are missing so much benefit from not putting our focus on goodness. Consider how you can lead your organization into this mindset and watch your business and families transform. As always, I"m here for help as you need. Comments are closed.
