This post is speaking to Integrity as a part of our personality, not in regards to architecture or structures. There are so many definitions out there that point to aspects of Integrity. My experience has been that mentioning the word 'integrity' casts a strong reaction whenever the word is spoken. Ask someone if they have integrity and notice the physical reaction and verbal responses you get. The energy quickly changes and postures shift and words start piling up, possibly tripped over. It's not an uncommon response. And does it need to be this way? I recently asked a handful of my closest associates and friends "what is integrity?" Here are a few responses that I received back. "basically about being honest and how "it's" (integrity) is a choice. Being truthful. Do what you say you're going to do. Be proud of it." "to make your way in the world that you could look back on and be proud of. To know you gave it your all. To know that you operated in a caring, loving and considerate manner. To be well intended." "what makes a person is what he/she does when no one else is looking. Actions have an impact on others" "honesty and strong morals, making good choices, not lying so people don't stop listening to you, feeling proud of yourself when integrity is intact" "my work and that I don't quit" "it's about honesty. Living clean with a clear conscience about who you are and the actions taken must be in line with moral values." "being honest and knowing that you are 100% accountable for your own actions and words. Accountability for what you say and do, and not regretting your actions because you made the right choice in a respectful and honest way." I wondered how people explained or taught integrity to their children I asked adults if they had integrity and how did they know? This conversation topic has impact! In my caring and loving spirit to co create a world that allows people the skills to better relate, self express and live with a sense of personal freedom, I am inspired to share the conversations around Integrity as well as leave you with the ability to process and invite Integrity into your life and show up as someone with integrity to lead others into being of integrity for themselves and their world. Who Am I To Be Writing About Integrity? I am simply a person who has had to learn through curiosity, experience and the pursuit of truth on what Integrity is in regards to human beings and how we show up in the world. Touching on the frequently asked question.."Why do we do what we do?" I noticed I was frustrated with people and their lack of doing what they say they would do, or even doing what felt like "should" be done. I dealt with feelings of disappointment and felt that if I could better understand how I show up, perhaps it would give me access to better understand others. We're not that different at the core. I never was able to put in understandable words what Integrity distilled down to, until I registered into Landmark Education curriculum. A curriculum designed to have you be powerful in designing a life you love! A curriculum I recommend everyone participate in. (no I am not an affiliate or commissioned from this program) It was here that I really was given a chance to dig into what Integrity was, how I was around Integrity and what I can produce from being a person with Integrity. Why Is Integrity Important? Integrity allows for the greatest success in everything! Guaranteed! Integrity: improves performance - improves workability - improves relationships Hands Down! The single best trait you can learn and be, is someone with Integrity Your word is who you are. And you feel so strongly about this that you are responsible for your communication and actions. How you show up in the world is how people will look at you or look to you and integrity will create a greater listening of you for others. Sounds amazing! Yes? How to be with Integrity? Simple: What you say you're going to do....DO! What you don't say you're going to do and notice needs to be done....DO! What needs to be done to be complete.....DO! What is meant to be done, as it was meant to be done....DO! If you say you're an honest person, then be honest If you say you're going to show up at 5pm, then be there at 5pm, ready. If you make a plan, then take the actions on the plan you made If you think something needs to be done and no one is assigned, do it. And when you are out of Integrity, as in, you did not do what you said you would do, be efficient and authentic about restoring your integrity/word. This could be something you need to do to yourself and/or others. You will soon get to know yourself as someone who "makes it happen" and you will create a different listening of you for those around you.
