How to foster a Growth Mindset

Fixed vs Growth Mindset

In order to start developing a growth mindset, we need to understand first, what kind of mindset you have. 

You may have a FIXED MINDSET if you;

• avoid challenges
• are excruciatingly self critical
• give up quickly
• resent others and their amazing lives
• negative mindset and thoughts
• judgemental
• argue for your limitations

If you believe you are a certain way because 'that's the way I was made', this is a fixed mindset.

Fostering a Growth Mindset

If you would like to have a sense of inner peace and freedom while building a fulfilling life at home and work, I believe these are the primary growth mindset steps to follow;
1.) Accept your imperfections:  No one is perfect.  No one will ever be perfect.  Screw up, laugh and learn from them and know that you will have a lifetime of them and smile at that knowing. :D

2.) Understand that there will be setback and failures:  Just like screw ups, take these as areas to develop or areas that you can choose not to develop.  These setbacks are inevitable in your development, there is no moving forward without the learnings, which can feel like push backs.

3.) You must learn to get and be ok with feedback and criticism:  Ask for more of them.  Be ok with receiving them.  These can be your guideposts when receiving from trusted and respected sources. 

4.) The growth is in the journey, not just getting to the outcome:  Keep your eyes open, your hands on the wheel and adapt appropriately.  This is the space where you can bank the most growth.

5.) Build resilience: drop the neediness (as Darren Hardy states), take it on the chin and stand up and be accountable for your choices, actions and consequences of these.

Pointing fingers, blaming, complaining are NOT components of a growth mindset.

Look!  I want you to know that the more you reach out and ask for help, the more you will grow.  You will learn to take the steps to develop a growth mindset with much less frustration when you choose to make this a mission and retain the help and support of a mentor or coach.
