Pulling You Down or Helping You Fly?
So often I have discussions with people about how they are feeling weighted down at work by negativity. Continuous conversations about how things are not working, colleagues are not pulling weight, people acting poorly, the list goes on and on.
Another discussion that was popular when I was a couples coach was the sharing of how one of the partners have now become so negative about life and it's draining on the relationship and the partner.
Unlimited complaints about how people can be energy stealers and time stealers.
So what's a happy positive person to do?
More importantly, how do you become one of those happy, positive people?
What is Negativity?
As per vocabulary.com website.
"Negativity is a tendency to be downbeat, disagreeable, and skeptical. It's a pessimistic attitude that always expects the worst.
Negative outcomes are bad outcomes, like losing a game, getting a disease, suffering an injury, or getting something stolen. Negativity is an attitude that always expects such negative things to happen. "I bet it'll rain during our picnic!" and "No one could ever love me!" are examples of negativity. "The world is getting worse and worse!" is negativity. Someone full of negativity is hard to cheer up, and they always expect the worst. The opposite of negativity is positivity."
So...now that you are clearly able to distinguish negative behaviour you need to learn exactly what this behaviour is creating in yourself, your family, friends, colleagues and anyone else who exhibits this way of being or carries this mindset.
Negativity = Disease!
First off, let me share with you all (both the negative and positive people) what being negative, having continuous negative emotions and being around negative people can do you to your health and wellbeing.
Your mindset has a profound affect on your physical body, your spirituality and your quality of life. The mind, the body, and the spirit are all inextricably interconnected. When one is affected, the other two suffer. We can live a healthy lifestyle and perform our spiritual duties, but if the mind is not healthy the other two cannot make up for the lack, and we are not truly healthy.
This is why it is crucial to become aware of our thoughts and mindsets and make necessary changes to encourage healthy lives.
We can experience a decline in our physical energy and vitality due to guilt from a string of lies; chronic aches and pains due to unresolved grudges; skin rash after a conflict; colds due to mental stress over such things as exams, trips, and arguments; heart rhythms changing in response to negative thoughts; high blood pressure from anger, fear and imagined problems. Our minds have a serious amount of power of control over our bodies.
We must learn how to manage the mind in order to encourage improved health and wellbeing.
You may not have any of these diseases yet and be assured that your negative thoughts and emotions have their toll. There are physiological reasons why the body reacts so dramatically to our thoughts and emotions. Every part of our being, including our cells, sympathize or respond to the positive and negative states of our minds.
Now You Know....What To Do.
Let's make something clear here!
Negativity will never be eradicated. Its part of the laws of the universe, like positivity is.
What creates the disease is too much negativity.
Creating a life where you can manage the input of negativity into your being as well as who you surround yourself with is crucial to your health.
I recommend you start by taking ownership of your own negativity and make any necessary changes to your:
2.) language used when talking to others and yourself
Then take inventory of those who surround you in life and become aware of the degree of negativity in their lifestyle. This is not a time for you to judge or ridicule them for their level of negativity, only a time for you to decide how you now want to be around them, or not be around them.
You leading your own way out of the negativity dark room, will have others in your workplace, home or social circle notice your shift.
When you are asked about your way new way of inviting positivity and releasing and letting go what is negative in your life, that its the time to invite others to share in your practice.
Life Long Exercise
Keeping a check on negativity will improve your overall wellbeing in life. It will make room for your decision to be happy in more moments and it will inevitably shift the people who are in your life.
This is not an overnight process.
In fact I recommend you work with a life coach to walk through the steps to ensure you get on the path mental positivity sooner than later.
Also, gaining support to shift out the negative people in your life who are pulling yo down and invite and attract the people who will fuel your engines and support your positive lifestyle.
Most important through all this is to stay true to yourself and groom a positive mindset from daily rituals like gratitude journals, positive writing exercises, practicing complimenting yourself and others. Staying away from news and gossip. Making a commitment to changing your involvement with negative media and people.
No man is an island, so be sure to ask and get support for this positive life change.
