Nothing Scientific Here!
This year I spent my Christmas holidays in Scotland with one of my best friends. The time leading up to me actually boarding a plane to head here was truly a process of steps. Prior to leaving, I was in action with all my businesses and looking forward to taking a "wee" break before the new year came along. What I've noticed while being away, is that even though I may not be plodding along as much as I was while I was home working, I am still in action and thoughtful about ideas and next steps. I can still feel the excitement and interest I built and was working with before I left for holidays. I believe what was created was momentum! How It Works Let me preface this by explaining, It has taken me (sigh) my whole life to learn all these fundamental steps to creating a desired outcome. You may already know these and if you are already applying, then I assure you, you are leagues, levels and miles ahead of most of us. In my observations from newly learning and practicing these steps, I watch how others apply or do not apply their knowledge or they do not even know it exists. I feel so strongly today that learning this will not only increase my personal and professional success, it will expedite all the things I want to create and do for others as well.! So I will spill the beans here...though I know for a fact I am not the designer of these steps, I am merely and proudly a follower. Step 1: IDEA: First you must have an idea of something you are wanting to do or create. Step 2: DESIGN: You must then get clear on the what the idea looks like, it's layout and intricacies. Step 3: PLAN: Like anything that requires building, a plan of the steps, people and tools required is necessary. Step 4: ACTION: It is imperative that you be in motion with your plan, taking baby steps and having the actions set up in your agenda, so consistency can happen Step 5: MOMENTUM: This will magically appear when there is a compilation of baby steps, feeling like small wins along the way to the clear idea. This is the invisible gasoline to your drive to completion. Step 6: OUTCOME: This is the final phase, the end product, the goal reached. This is where so many people realize, the adventure was in the journey, the reward may not seem as quite as exciting as the process. Yet there is satisfaction in the outcome. Step 7: CELEBRATE: We are so quick to punish ourselves for our failures, yet few of us take the time to celebrate our wins and accomplishments. Take a moment to distinguish the completion of a project/idea. MOMENTUM My experience of this magical energy is that it ebbs and flows with the compilation of my baby steps. When I hang out too long in limbo land, not committed to my agenda of baby steps, momentum starts to wane. When I am focused on consistency and baby steps within my plan, momentum builds like the roller coaster ride up to the highest peak...slow and bumpy yet you can feel the energy and excitement start to build as you hit the highest peak on the ride, just before you go over. Momentum reminds me of the times in life when you notice everything is going right. Momentum is the benefits of your accumulated baby steps. Momentum is not something you can instantly inject into a project. It is something that can only show up and come with taking continuous action. Different than Will, Momentum shows up, it is not called upon. More on Momentum Start to pay attention when momentum is showing up in your action steps. Get excited about making plans, setting goals and see what it takes. How many action steps are needed for your momentum to start showing up? Notice it wane off. What are you not doing? When did it wane? Will power will get you through the steps of a project you are not positively relating to, Momentum will get you through the next series of steps with zest and aliveness. Which would you rather be operating from? Your Next Steps I invite you to create your idea for 2016 Write out a bunch of them. Big and small. Then choose your top three. Sit with those three for a couple days and then pick the one you want to roll with. Get committed to making it happen! Then write your design of this idea. How does it affect all five human senses. (look, touch, taste, smell, hear) What is the experience of your idea? Do whatever you feel you need to bring it to visionary life. Magazine cut outs, drawings, colour, textures. Tap into your creativity. Now it's time to outline your steps of action that are required to make this idea and design a reality. The steps represent how you would build this. As always in life, there will be unpredictables so be sure to add the ingredient of flexibility and adaptable to your action steps. Journal the process and note when you feel momentum. Realize what it took to manifest this momentum and be sure to carry that forward. Remember, momentum is the juice that will fill your project with enthusiasm. Lastly, be sure to acknowledge and celebrate your outcome reached. I recommend building this celebration into your plan. So get clear on what it would be like to celebrate your idea coming to reality. Who do you want there? Where will you celebrate? MOMENTUM TIP: If you want to reach your outcome and gain momentum on the way, I highly recommend you hire a coach for accountability and sustainability purposes. Even if it's a monthly touchstone, it will enable you to stay on track and create your desired outcome! All the best to your for 2016 - It's your life, you're in full control. It's time to apply the fundamentals to achieve the outcomes you desire. Know that I will be doing the same process with my coach! :D Live With Passion and Be Playful |
